RC Helicopter Light Painting

What are the different types of RC Helicopters (2CH, 3CH, etc.) and how do I know which is best for me?

Most beginners in the RC helicopter hobby with find a 3 channel dual axial heli the easiest to fly.  The counter action of the 2 sets of rotor blades makes for an easy flight due to its stable flight characteristics.  A 3 Channel Helicopter has the tail motor for forward and backward flight, which makes for a full function but easy to fly heli. A 2 channel helicopter will be able to move left and right, these style of heli's will go forward only.  A 4 channel helicopter will have up and down, tail left and right, forward and backwards but also have roll axis that will "tilt the heli left and right", this is for a more experienced flyer.  There are even 6 channel heli's that have all the functions of a 4 channel but also have a pitch setting for the blades that not only have positive lift but can also give negative lift for inverted (upside down) flight.

If this is your first heli purchase try to get no more than 3 channels and somethign that has a gyroscope (gyro) that will keep the heli stable in flight.

How to Fly RC Heli - Lessons for beginners

Here are some great lessons if you are flying a helicopter for the first time.

Lesson 1

Draw a circle in front of you. In the beginning, draw a big circle. Place the helicopter in the circle and hover it 1-2 feet from the ground and keep it inside the circle. Stand 5-10 ft away from the circle. Trust me, you need this practice.

Lesson 2
Stand a little farther from the circle, but have the circle at your right. Once again, hover the helicopter in the circle, 2-3 feet from the ground. After you mastered this, have the circle on the left side and do the same thing.

Lesson 3
Hover your helicopter again in the circle, 2-3 feet from the ground and move yourself around.

Lesson 4
Draw another circle 5-10 feet away from the first circle. Stand in the middle of both circles and transfer the helicopter from circle 1 to circle 2 and then come back to circle 1. Practice this until you master it.

What should I look for when buying an RC Helicopter?

3.  Capable of flying both indoors and outdoors 

Most indoor helicopters are capable of flying outdoors.  Our recommendations for great RC Helicopters that can fly both indoors and outdoors are our SYMA S031 and SYMA S032.

4.  Capable of Multi-frequency

Flying RC Helicopters by yourself is not as fun as doing it with friends.  Luckily, finding multi-frequency helicopters is very easy – all 2.4 Ghz helicopters allow you to fly helicopters at different frequencies.  My favorite is the ESKY Belt CP X.
